‘Financial crisis’: 38-year-old kills wife & two sons, tries to end life in Delhi’s Dwarka

A 38-year-old man in Delhi’s Vipin Garden area allegedly killed his wife and two sons, including an infant, over “financial woes” on Sunday morning, the Delhi Police said.

According to the police, Rajesh killed his 35-year-old wife and their two sons — a five-year and the other four months old — and then tried to slit his wrist. The man is currently undergoing treatment.

Rajesh’s parents — both aged about 75 years — were in the next room when the incident took place, the police said.

An FIR under Section 302 (murder) of Indian Penal Code has been lodged at the Mohan Garden police station.

“After killing his wife and children, Rajesh inflicted a deep injury on his own wrist. He is under treatment in hospital,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Dwarka M, Harshavardhan said.

Before taking the drastic step, Rajesh, according to the police, sent a message to his friends in the early hours of Sunday mentioning his financial woes. His friends alerted his brother after which a PCR call was made at 6 am in the morning.

“When the police arrived at the spot, three bodies were found. Rajesh was found injured and has been admitted at Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital. Initial investigation has revealed that he sent a message in his school friends WhatsApp group where he mentioned his financial difficulties. His friends informed his brother. The door was locked from inside, the police team broke in and found the bodies,” the DCP said.

Police said that Rajesh runs a general store in the area and had earlier run a company that did work related to ISO certification (seal of approval from a third party that a company has requirements for standardisation and quality assurance).
