Assam-Mizoram border clash: 5 Assam police personnel killed, several injured
Guwahati: In a tragic incident, five Assam police personnel were killed and several others injured in a clash between police and civilians in the border district Silchar on Monday evening.
Today, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma laid a wreath and paid tribute to the policemen who lost their lives in the border clash. Also, he met injured police personnel admitted to Silchar Medical College and Hospital.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma alleged that Mizoram Police had used Light Machine Guns (LMG) against the police personnel. Sarma spoke to Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga and expressed willingness to visit Aizawl and discuss these issues if need be.
Deputy Leader of Congress in Lok Sabha, Gaurav Gogoi, demanded enquiry into this incident. Gaurav Gogoi asked whether are we in our country or on the borders of the country?
Meanwhile, Congress constituted a 7-member committee 'to visit Cachar and any other area to assess the Assam-Mizoram border dispute on the ground and the ensuing violence' Assam Congress chief Bhupen Bora to lead the committee, reported news agency ANI.
