Earlier, Amit Shah inaugurated three projects-GM Central Library, Gandhi Bhavan, and Police Public School & hostel building in Davagere. He said, "More than 50 crores has been spent on these three different projects. I'm happy to be present here".

Also, Shah felicitated three freedom fighters BM Shivalingaswamy, H Marulasiddappa, and Tiruvalli Siddaramappa, as the country is celebrating the 75th anniversary of Independence.

Amit Shah's surprise announcement on the BJP CM candidate comes as former chief minister BS Yediyurappa is planning to tour the state to help bring the BJP to power on its own in 2023. Karnataka BJP in-charge Arun Singh said that the party would not stop Yediyurappa's proposed state-tour. He added that BSY is an experienced leader and need not seek permission from the top brass to tour the state.

In his farewell speech, while announcing his resignation, BSY said, "I am not sad. I am happy that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Amit Shah and JP Nadda gave BS Yediyurappa additional two years despite breaching the 75-year-old cap. Words are not enough to thank them. I appeal that all of us should work together to build the party."
