CM announces scholarship to farmers’ children to pursue higher education
Bengaluru: As he assured that his government will work for farmers and the downtrodden, the newly elected Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has announced a new scheme of scholarship to farmer’s children, enabling them to pursue higher education.
Chairing the first cabinet meeting soon after taking the oath, the Chief Minister has earmarked Rs. 1000 crore for scholarship scheme to farmers’ children to pursue higher education.
Briefing media, Mr. Bommai said that he had earmarked Rs. 1000 crore for this scheme, due to inflation and Covid reasons, farmers’ children have discontinued the study.

To encourage farmers' children to take up higher education and ensure they should not be deprived of taking higher education, the government will give scholarships to the children of farmers. A detailed order will be issued for the implementation of this scheme, Mr. Bommai said.
Focusing on the welfare of the poorer and deprived classes, the Chief Minister has also enhanced the allocation for existing social security schemes of Sandhya Suraksha, Widow pension, and pension to disabled.
The monthly old-age pension scheme of Sandhya Suraksha has been increased from Rs. 1000 to 1200. Rs. 863.52 crore has been earmarked for the scheme; 35.98 lakh beneficiaries will be benefited from this scheme, the Chief Minister said.

Widow pension scheme has been increased from Rs. 600 to Rs.800. The government will incur an additional expenditure of Rs. 414 crore for this scheme, which will be benefited, 17.57 lakh people. For disabled who is having 40 to 75 % disability, pension amount has enhanced from Rs. 600 to Rs.800, the government has earmarked Rs. 90 crore, 3.66 lakh people will get benefited.
“Along with new scheme of scholarship to the farmers’ children, four decisions of my cabinet has indicated that our government will give priority to the welfare of the farmers, downtrodden, poorer, and deprived classes”, Mr. Bommai said.
