CM Yogi Adityanath files nomination from Gorakhpur Urban Assembly constituency

Gorakhpur: Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath filed his nomination from Gorakhpur Urban Assembly constituency on Friday. Before the nomination, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Union Minister and  State BJP In-Charge Dharmendra Pradhan addressed a rally in the city.

In the rally, Amit Shah said, "BJP is going to repeat the history in UP.  In 2014, 2017 and 2019 polls, the people of Uttar Pradesh chose the development under the leadership of PM Modi and gave the absolute majority. Today with CM Yogi filing nomination, BJP is marching ahead with a resolve of '300 paar'."

Earlier, Yogi Adityanath offered prayers at Gorakhnath Temple. 

Last month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who chaired a meeting of the BJP's Central Election Committee, took a final call to field  Yogi Adityanath from Gorakhpur constituency. Political grapevine had it that he would contest from either Ayodhya or Mathura. 

Yogi has never contested for Assembly election before. He was the MP of Gorakhpur for five terms. Currently, he is a member of the Legislative Council.

The BJP has received a big jolt month before the election its powerful OBC leaders have deserted the party and joined SP. Also, seven sitting MLAs have left the party.

Legislative Assembly elections are scheduled to be held in Uttar Pradesh from 10 February to 7 March 2022 in seven phases to elect all 403 members of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly. The votes will be counted and the results will be declared on 10 March 2022.
