Congress decides to move SC, seeks enquiry into Bitcoin scam

Bengaluru: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) is contemplating filing public interest litigation before the Supreme Court seeking an independent enquiry into Bitcoin scam.

Speaking to media persons here on Friday, Congress legislator Priyank Kharge said that the state government is trying to hush-up the case since its BJP senior leader are involved in multi-crore Bitcoin scam, thus Congress is mulling over to file a PIL before the Supreme Court seeking directions court-monitored judicial enquiry headed by the sitting judge of the Supreme Court, he said.

Mr. Kharge alleged that top police officials, bureaucrats and BJP senior leaders have been involved in the scam. Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai who was the Home Minister in the BSY government has aware of the scam, but he is trying his best to close the matter, the Congress leader alleged.

“I would not say if BJP gets third Chief Minister in a day to come, but police action was in question in handling Bitcoin scam, after arresting most wanted hacker and prime accused of Bitcoin scam Shriki, police have not followed the proper procedure and let him go out from the bail”, he said.

Police have claimed that they have seized Bitcoin worth Rs. 9 crores, the police inspector Shridhar Poojar has taken witnesses of Bescom lineman and commercial tax department employee for Panchanama, how can Bescom lineman knows about Bitcoin matter, Mr. Kharge questioned.

Police have not questioned another accused Rabin Kandhel, he was accused of using Bitcoin for Hawala transactions. After he surrendered before the police, investigating officers have not questioned him properly, said Congress leader.

Prime accused Shriki who is out on bail, he was not taken to a medical test, police have purposefully not taken him for a medical test. Earlier it was stated that Shriki had 31 Bitcoins in his wallet, but it was stated that Shriki had 186 Bitcoins. Police have not disclosed the sources of the huge quantity of Bitcoins seized from Shriki. Police have made a shabby enquiry into the matter, Mr. Kharge said.
