Coolie finds Rs 1.4 lakh phone unaware that it belongs to Amitabh Bachchan's MUA
In a heartwarming incident at Mumbai's Dadar station, a 62-year-old coolie who found a expensive phone lying in the seating area of the station immediately turned it in at the Government Railway Police (GRP) chowky instead of trying to keep it. Later, it was found that the 1.4 lakh worth handset belonged to Deepak Sawant, the trusted make-up artist of legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan.
Dashrath Daund's honesty was commended by the Police as well as the Sawant family. The Sawanth's have offered him a cash reward of Rs 1,000.
Daund has worked as a coolie for nearly 30 years now and has a daily earning of not more than Rs 3oo. On Monday, he was at work carrying passengers’ luggage onto long-distance trains. He found the phone at around 11:40 pm as he was wrapping up work on platfom number 4 where Amritsar-bound train was placed.
“I was walking on the platform when I noticed a phone lying in a seating area. I picked it up and asked the passengers seated nearby whether it belonged to them. They all said it did not,” said Daund.
The coolie then went straight to the Dadar GRP Chowky. “I'm not well-versed with gadgets and never keep anyone else’s belongings with me anyway,” he said.
After handing in the phone with the police, Daund went home and was off to sleep when he got a call from the cops sometime later. The police had tracked down the owner of the handset and the department and the Sawants were full of praise for the elderly coolie.
