Five States Assembly polls: ECI grants relaxations for indoor meetings
Earlier ECI has imposed a ban on public meetings, rallies, roadshows till January 15, now it has extended the same to January 22, but at the same time it has given relaxation to conduct indoor public meeting with capacity of 300 persons
New Delhi: The Election Commission of India has extended the ban on physical rallies and roadshows until January 22 for five states Assembly elections, however, the Commission has granted relaxation to conduct indoor political meetings with a capacity of 300 people.
The ECP spokesperson tweeted that ECI grants relaxation for the political parties to the extent that indoor meetings of a maximum of 300 persons or 50% of the capacity of the hall or the prescribed limit set by SDMA.
Further Spokesperson stated that political parties to adhere to the provisions of MCC and the broad guidelines of Covid
ECI directs States/ District Administration to ensure compliance with all instructions related to MCC and Covid.
While announcing the calendar of events to five states elections, the ECI has imposed a ban on physical rallies, roadshows, public meetings, cycle rally or any kind of public gathering up to January 15 due to a surge in Covid cases and infectious Omicron variant.
ECI has announced a poll to Uttar Pradesh, Goa, Punjab, Uttarakhand and Manipur Assemblies. Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections will be held in seven phases starting from February 10. Punjab, Goa, and Uttarakhand elections will be held in one phase( February 14) and Manipur elections will be held in two phases, (February 27 and March 3). Results of five states will be announced on March 10.
