Former JD(U) leader Pavan Varma joins Trinamool Congress
Former Janata Dal (United) leader Pavan Varma joined Trinamool Congress in presence of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday.
New Delhi: Former Janata Dal (United) leader Pavan Varma joined Trinamool Congress in presence of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday.
"Looking at the current political circumstances and the potential in Mamata Banerjee, I have today joined Trinamool Congress", said Pavan Varma to news agency ANI.
Mr Varma called the West Bengal CM "a big force" in national politics and claimed people from all parties, including the BJP, will join her. "There has been no discussion on a Rajya Sabha seat for me," he clarified.
Varma is a former Indian Foreign Service officer and was an adviser to the Chief Minister of Bihar, Nitish Kumar, with cabinet rank. With effect from June 2014, he was a Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) until July 2016. He was the National General Secretary and National Spokesman of the JD (U).
