The High Court has observed that the Datta Peeta Shrine belongs to the Muzari department and is not belongs to the Wakf property.

Bengaluru: In a significant order, the Karnataka High Court ordered the state government to appoint a Hindu priest at Datta Peeta shrine in Chikmagalur. 

Singe judge bench, justice P.S.Dinesh Kumar has quashed the order of the state government appointing a Mujawar for holding worship ritual at Datta Peeta shrine. 

Shri Guru Dattatreya Peetha Temple Development Committee had filed a petition challenging the government order dated May 19, 2018, regarding the appointment of Mujawar to hold worship rituals at the Datta Peeta shrine. 

The bench has direct the government to review the matter without considering the recommendations of the high-level committee headed by Justice H.N. Nagmohan Das. 

The court has observed that the nature and character of religious practices which were prevailing at the shrine as of August 15, 1947, have to be continued. Court has also observed that the Shrine belongs to the Muzari department and is not belongs to the Wakf property.

BJP national general secretary C.T. Ravi tweeted that, the High Court’s order is a huge victory for Hindus. “Karnataka High Court orders the Government to appoint Hindu Priests in Datta Peeta.

I welcome the decision of the High Court in rejecting the biased report of Justice Nagmohan Das committee. Om Guru Dattatreya Namaha”, Mr. Ravi tweeted soon after the verdict. 

During Datta Jayanti, Hindu priests performing rituals, however pro Hindu organizations and BJP urging for to appointment permanent Hindu priest at Shrine. Court order will pave the way for the state government to appoint permanent Hindu priests at Shrine. 

Pro Hindu organizations have welcomed the verdict and termed it as a big victory to their long-standing demand.
