Bengaluru: The Number of COVID-19 cases in Dharwad's SDM College of Medical Sciences reached 281, with 99 people testing positive on Friday.
"Out of the 281 cases, only six patients are symptomatic, District Collector Nitish Patil told news agency ANI.
"281 students tested positive in SDM College of Medical Sciences in Dharwad. We've tested all 1788 students of the college, some results are awaited. Also, one international school had reported 34 cases and another 12 cases. None of these cases was severe", Karnataka Health Minister Dr. Sudhakar told news agency ANI.
Nearly 66 medical students of the SDM medical college, those who were fully vaccinated has tested Covid positive on Friday, the district authorities have seized two hostels. The district health authorities have done the Covid test for 300 students studying in SDM College. After the Covid positive, classes have been suspended for time being.
Deputy Commissioner of Dharwad Nitesh Patil told reporters that, the number of Covid infected students might increase as the students had participated in an event in the college recently. All those who tested positive are first-year students. Many of the students enrolled in the college are from other States.
