Bengaluru: The Karnataka High Court on Thursday restrained police from taking action against Dream11 gaming app founders Bhavit Sheth and Harsh Jain till November 9.
According to the new amendment made by Karnataka Government in the last Assembly session which restricts online games.
The high court took up a batch of petitions filed by the All India Gaming Federation and several gaming firms against a new law introduced in the state banning online gambling.
Karnataka legislature passed a set of major amendments to the Karnataka Police Act, 1963. The amendment bans all forms of gambling, including online gambling. The Karnataka Police (Amendment) Bill, 2021, aims to make gambling a cognisable and non-bailable offence to “curb the menace of gaming through the Internet, mobile apps”.
