Karnataka Hijab row: Govt not in  favour of either hijab or kesari, says Minister Ashoka

Bengaluru:  Karnataka Revenue Minister R Ashoka stated that the government is not in favour of either 'Hijab or Kesari' a day after violence between pro and anti-hijab groups in the state. The minister stressed on dress code in schools.

As the government awaiting the Karnataka High Court on the hijab issue, R Ashoka, said, "Government is not in favour of either Hijab or Kesari [saffron]. Students can wear whatever they want on the streets, but the dress code is compulsory in schools. We closed schools and colleges as a precautionary measure for students' safety. Congress is behind this politics."  

Anti-hijab groups in the state showed their protest wearing saffron headgears in school and colleges premises.  As the situation went out of control in coastal and central Karnataka districts, the government declared the closure of schools and colleges for three days from Wednesday

While commenting on 'hijab row', Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said, "We're awaiting directions from Karnataka HC. I appeal to students to maintain peace and harmony. I've directed school administration to see there're no clashes between students. Appeal to all concerned persons from outside not to make provocative statements."  

CM Bommai also directed concerned authorities to maintain law and order. He further added, "As I speak proceedings in the court are underway. I appeal to each and everyone not to provoke at this time. Congress is just putting false allegations on us. We will abide by the law."
