Nadoja Chennaveera Kanavi dies at 93
“Kanavi has given immense contribution to the Kannada literature. His mild nature has won the hearts of everyone in literary field. Along with Kanavi his wife also contributed to the Kannada literary field”, Mr. Bommai said in condolence message.
Bengaluru: Noted Kannada poet, writer Nadoja Channaveera Kanavi passed away in Dharwad after prolonged illness, he was 94 years old.
Following acute respiratory distress syndrome, he was admitted to the SDM Hospital on January 4, 2022. The Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai condoled the demise of noted poet.
Kanavi was one of the most creative writers of Kannada literary world. He and his family were very close to me for the past four decades. He is a personification of humility who used to win the hearts through his softs spoken and gentle nature. I have never seen him losing his cool. He has been honoured with many prestigious awards including the Nadoja award. He raised the stature of the awards, such was his credibility, Bommai said in his condolence message.
The Kannada literary world has suffered a huge loss in his death. It is unfortunate that we are losing so many literary greats like Champa, Siddalingaiah and now Kanavi. New writers should get inspiration from these great litterateurs and rise to attain top glory. Karnataka literature has the distinction of winning 8 Jnanpith awards. The literary world should continue its rich contributions and win many more Jnanpith awards, Bommai said.
The State government is ready to provide all assistance for the literary world. That would be the best way of paying its respects to Kanavi. "May the almighty give the strength to his family members to brear this grief," Bommai said.
Kanvi popularly called as ‘Chambelakina Kavi’ was recipient of many awards and honor. Born in Hombala of Gadag district in June 28, 1928. His parents were Sakkareppa and Parvathavva. He finished his school and college education in Dharwad.
In 1952 he got his B. A. degree from Karnataka College Dharwad and M. A. Degree from Karnataka University Dharwad. From 1956 to 1983 he worked as a Director for 'Prasaranga' of Karnataka University.
He is considered one of the major poet and writer in the Kannada language and received the Sahitya Akademi Award for his work Jeeva Dhwani (Poetry) in 1981. He is popularly known as "Samanvayada Kavi" and "Soujanyada Kavi".
He was also recipient of Rajyotsava award, Pampa award, Nrupatunga Award, Maasti Award, Karnataka Kavirathna award, Basavarguru Karunnya award, Nadoja award. He was awarded with honorary doctorate from Karnataka University of Dharawad.
