Political parties want  UP Polls on time, says CEC Sushil Chandra

New Delhi:  The Election Commission did not indicate postponing Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections amid concerns over new coronavirus variant Omicron. 

In a press conference held today,  after reviewing the COVID-29 situation in the poll-bound state, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sushil Chandra said, "Representatives of all political parties met us and told us that elections should be conducted on time following all COVID19 protocols."

Speaking on arrangements of the election, CEC Sushil Chandra said that VVPATs to be installed at all voting booths. Live webcasting facilities will be available at around 1 lakh voting booths to ensure transparency in the election process.

"Voting during Assembly elections will be held from 8am to 6pm on the date of polling," Chandra added.

The commission has already visted Punjab, Goa and Uttarakhand as part of its exercise.
