Lalitpur: Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Friday met the families of four farmers who allegedly fell ill and died while waiting in the line for purchasing agricultural fertilizer in Lalitpur, Bundelkhand.
After meeting the bereaved family, Priyanka Gandhi told news agency ANI, "Lesser quantity of fertiliser is now being given in sacks and the price has been increased. What will they do? They have a lot of issues, but the government isn't listening. They know that farmers are on roads for months. They are being mowed down by vehicles".
"The government has failed, it has completely ignored farmers. This is not an issue of these four farmers alone, this is an issue of the entire Bundelkhand".
In Lalitpur, one of the farmers, 55-year-old Bhogilal Pal of Nayagaon died of a cardiac arrest while standing in a queue outside a fertilizer shop, reported India Today. He had reportedly been waiting for his turn to purchase fertilizer for two days.
