Drugs of Rs 153 cr seized in Maharashtra in first 4 months of 2025: Fadnavis tells assembly

MUMBAI: (Jul 8) Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis informed the state legislative assembly on Tuesday that over 28,302 kilograms of drugs, worth approximately ₹153.25 crore, were seized across the state between January and April 2025.

In a written reply to a question raised by NCP MLA Kashinath Date and others in the Lower House, Fadnavis acknowledged that despite the ongoing ban on gutka and other tobacco products, they continue to be openly sold at roadside stalls.

During the four-month period, 5,001 cases were registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and 4,481 individuals were arrested for offenses related to trafficking, possession, and consumption of drugs, the CM stated.

Additionally, 37,149 people faced action for the sale, possession, or use of gutka and banned tobacco products.

Fadnavis noted that Anti-Narcotics Cells (ANCs) have been set up across all police units in the state. He also highlighted the establishment of a dedicated Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) and a Narco-Coordination Centre to strengthen enforcement efforts.

Several awareness campaigns and preventive initiatives are also being implemented to combat drug abuse, the CM added.
