Bengaluru: Bengaluru Police have imposed restrictions for public movement in the city from 6 pm onwards. Since night curfew is in force from 10 pm onwards, the police have banned the public gathering from 6 pm onwards in view of New Year celebrations.

M.G. Road, Brigade road will have deserted look, police have installed CCTV cameras in these two points, asked people not to gather in M.G. Road to celebrate the new year. Police have imposed 144 section from 6 pm onwards in the city to avoid public gatherings. 

Home Minister Araga Jnanendra told reporters here on Friday, restrictions on public movement in the city from 6 pm onwards, to curb the spread of the Omicron variant, the government has taken the precautionary measures, he said.

Following the instructions of the Centre, restrictions have been imposed in the state, among 8 states Karnataka is also in the list of Omicron affected states. Home Minister has requested the people to celebrate the new year while sitting at home itself instead of going out.

CCTV cameras have been installed in strategic points in the city. Police have been asked to be more vigilant in Brigade road, Church street and M.G. Road, the Home Minister said.

“We are not happy to impose restrictions for celebrations of the new year. I understand the pain of hotel, pub owners, they are facing losses due to Coronavirus since two years. But considering the safety of the people. We have seen Ambulances are lined up in front of the crematorium during the second wave was in peak. To avoid such kind of horrific situation in future we are taking precautionary measures in advance”, Mr. Araga Jnanendra added.
