Ready to be hanged if found guilty, says Farooq Abdullah on exodus of Pandits

New Delhi: The former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir Farooq Abdullah has said that he is ready to be hanged anywhere in the country if he is found responsible for the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from the state.

The Kashmiri Pandit’s exodus issue came to the fore once again and heated debate on this issue is taking place across the country following the release of the controversial The Kashmir Files film.

He stated that if an honest judge or committee is appointed, the truth will be revealed. You'll figure out who's to blame.

"If Farooq Abdullah is responsible,  I am ready to be hanged anywhere in the country. I'm ready to face that trial, but don't blame individuals who aren't at fault," he stated in an exclusive interview with Raj Chengappa of India Today.

"I believe, 'm responsible. If people want to know the harsh reality, they should speak with the Intelligence Bureau chief at the time, or Kerala governor Arif Mohammad Khan, who was a union minister at the time,” he said.

Abdullah said that the issue and the incidents pain him much and it affected every soul of the state. Both Pandits and Muslims were affected by this tragedy. He also blamed then Governor of the state Jagmohan Malhotra.

"We must remember the then-Governor who put the Pandits in buses and told them, 'We will bring you back in two months because I have to use force on these people [insurgents] and the reprisal might damage you.'" It's been 32 years now. "Where have all the Kashmiri Pandits gone?"

He went on to say, "I was not ruling then [during the exodus]." I gave up the moment Jagmohan arrived. I suggested that we try to salvage the situation. If you don't believe me, believe him. On the first day of his leadership, 50 people were killed. He was the man in command. "Did he manage to save the situation?"

Abdullah termed The Kashmir Files a propaganda movie and blamed that this movie raked up the tragedy just hit and hurt the souls of every Kashmiri.
