Scotland make it three out of three

As the qualifying round is almost coming to its end, the usual suspects have made it to the super 12s, with Scotland doing it with flying colours. So Scotland, Ireland, Bangladesh and Srilanka have made it to the next stage.

Scotland make it three out of three

After their historic win against Bangladesh in their first game, there was little doubt that Scotland would qualify. But the way they've played their cricket, dominating almost all games, they've left the ICC with very few reasons not to award them with full member status.

It wasn't a must win game for Scotland yesterday against Oman. They just had to make sure they didn't lose by a big margin. But Oman had to win it at all costs, that too by a huge margin. In the quest to achieve that run margin, Oman opted to bat first. But toss was the only thing that went according to plan for them.

Jatinder Singh, their main hope with the bat , was run out in a horrendous manner on the very first ball he faced. Aqib Ilyas and Mohammed Nadeem played some attacking strokes as did their skipper Zeeshan Maqsood, but no one really capitalised on their starts and put on a big one. Josh Davey was the star of the show once again with the ball with 3 wickets to his name.

Chasing a paltry 123, Skipper Kyle Coetzer didn't waste any time to get going. Sometimes totals like this can be tricky if you play defensively up top. Hence Coetzer's 41 of 29 was the game changer with the bat as there was little time for Oman to make a comeback in the game. The experienced duo of Matthew Cross and Richie Berrington made sure Scotland reached the target without any fuss.

The celebrations from the Scottish team after the win was a sight to behold. For a team like Scotland, who get very little game time with the big nations, reaching the super 12s is just the right tonic for them to push their desire for full member status.

Brief Scores: Oman 122 in 20 overs (Aqib Ilyas 37, Zeeshan Maqsood 35; Josh Davey 3-25) lost to Scotland 123/2 in 17 overs (Kyle Coetzer 41, Richie Berrington 31*; Fayyaz Butt 1-26) by 8 wickets
