Sidhu quits as Punjab Congress chief: What did leaders say?

Chandigarh: Leading the Punjab Congress into a state of a political mess, Navjot Singh Sidhu resigned as Punjab Congress Chief on Tuesday. Sidhu's resignation came as a shocker to the party high command that has maintained silence on the resignation issue.

Four other Congress leaders have resigned from their posts followed in "solidarity" with the resignation of the party's state unit chief Navjot Singh Sidhu. Congress, Akali Dal leaders have reacted to the unexpected development. Lets's take a look at who said what.

Congress leader Manish Tewari: Whatever Capt Amarinder Singh had predicted is coming true. The concern of a large number of us who see things beyond the cut&thrust of partisan politics is implications that this will have on larger stability of Punjab, given the social turmoil because of farmers' agitation:

Congress leader Manish Tewari: The gentleman (Sidhu) can answer for himself. I'm in no position or neither would I like to articulate or second guess a question that can be best addressed by him:

Congress leader KC Venugopal: "Nothing to worry, everything will be alright,"

SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal: I'd earlier said that Navjot Singh Sidhu is a misguided missile that does not know where it will go or will kill whom. He first destroyed Captain (Amarinder Singh) by becoming Punjab Congress president and then wiped out his party.

Congress MLA Bawa Henry: Navjot Singh Sidhu's resignation (as Punjab Congress Chief) has not been accepted, the matter will be resolved soon. There are 3-4 issues, they are being discussed in the party forum, high command will resolve them.

Congress MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira: He (Navjot Singh Sidhu) had taken a stand against corruption in Punjab..., if his suggestions are not paid heed to, he would not want to be a speechless president. We urge him to withdraw his resignation and request the high command to redress his grievances.

Razia Sultana: "Sidhu Sahab is a man of principles. He is fighting for Punjab and Punjabiyat." Razia Sultana, who took as a Cabinet Minister of Punjab two days ago, resigned "in solidarity with Navjot Singh Sidhu".
