Even before the beginning of April which is believed to be the start of summers, the temperature is already souring in the month of March itself with Kalaburagi district recording a maximum temperature of 40.4 degree Celsius on Thursday.

According to the sources, the temperature is two degrees higher than the average temperature in mid-march.

The temperature normally remains at around 37.8 degree Celsius in March. The sources said that in March 1996, the district had recorded the highest temperature of 43 degrees.

Other parts of the state too have been experiencing high temperatures in the last decade.

The sources said that even the State’s capital, Bengaluru had recorded one degree more than the average temperature in March.

The all-time March temperature record for the city was 37.3 degree Celsius on March 29, 1996. Its daily mean maximum temperature is 33.1 degree Celsius.

Among other districts, Madikeri recorded a sharp rise in the temperature compared to its average temperature.

The district recorded 34.8 degrees which is five degrees more than the average. Meanwhile the sources said that the dry weather is expected to continue in the state, however, some relief can be expected.

According to the forecast valid till the morning of March 19, rain or thundershowers are likely to occur at isolated places over Coastal Karnataka and South Interior Karnataka, while dry weather is likely to prevail over North Interior Karnataka.

The forecast for the state capital and nearby places said that it will be a clear sky with maximum temperature reaching up to 35 degrees for Friday.

Saturday will have a partly cloudy sky with the maximum and minimum temperatures likely to be around 35 and 20 Degree Celsius respectively.

IMD officials said rain was expected in parts of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Koppal, Raichur, Kalaburagi, Yadgir, Chikmagalur, Hassan, Kodagu, Mysuru and Mandya in the next few days. On March 19, barring Chitradurga, Davangere, Shivamogga and Tumakuru, rain is expected in all districts in South Interior Karnataka, including Bengaluru.
