UP govt gives permission to Rahul Gandhi to visit Lakhimpur Kheri
State government has given permission to Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi and three other people to visit Lakhimpur Kheri on Wednesday. Rahul Gandhi, Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel and Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi are on way to Lakhimpur Kheri.

Earlier, The Uttar Pradesh Government has denied permission to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to visit Lakhimpur Kheri and Sitapur wherein 8 people were killed in the violence and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is under arrest at guest house respectively. Rahul Gandhi, Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel, Punjab CM Charanjit Channi and 5-member delegation led by Rahul Gandhi is supposed to visit Lakhimpur Kheri, Uttar Pradesh today.
DK Thakur, Lucknow Police Commissioner said, "If he [Rahul Gandhi] arrives in Lucknow, we'll request him at the airport not to visit Lakhimpur Kheri and Sitapur. SP and DM of Lakhimpur and Sitapur urged us to stop him from coming in wake of the law and order situation.
No Congress leader has been allowed to visit Lakhimpur after the violence claimed eight people. Four farmers were killed during visit of the Union Minister to the protest site. Four were killed when Minister’s convoy vehicle was rammed into the farmers. Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya said the violence in the Lakhimpur Kheri district started after the minister’s car rammed over the protesters, after the incident, the vehicle set on fire.

Chhattisgarh CM and Congress leader Bhupesh Baghel staged a sit-in at the Lucknow airport for not allowing to meet Priyanka Gandhi, who is under house arrest at Sitapur guest house.
UP police have detained Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and slapped case under section 151 of IPC, (knowingly joins or continues in any assembly of five or more persons likely to cause a disturbance of the public peace). Congress leaders including Deepender Hooda condemned the police high handedness of detaining Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.
In escalating political tension over the issue, Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav was taken into custody. Police took Akhilesh Yadav into custody outside his residence where he staged a sit-in protest after being stopped from going to Lakhimpur Kheri.
