Uttarakhand assembly polls: Late CDS General Bipin Rawat's brother joins BJP
In a tragic incident, the highest defence officer of India, India's first CDS General Bipin Rawat, his wife Madhulika Rawat and 11 others died in a chopper crash near Tamil Nadu's Coonoor in the Nilgiris on December 8, 2021.
New Delhi: Colonel Vijay Rawat (retired), younger brother of Late Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat joined BJP on Wednesday in the presence of Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami ahead of Uttarakhand assembly polls.
After joing the party, Colonel Vijay Rawat (retired), said, " I'm grateful to have been allowed to join BJP. My father was with BJP after retiring and now I've gotten a chance. PM Modi's vision and thinking is very wise and futuristic."
Uttarkhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami said, "The Rawat family's has rendered exemplary service to the nation. The BJP is determined to transform Uttrakhand as envisioned by late CDS Bipin Rawat.
In a tragic incident, the highest defence officer of India, India's first CDS General Bipin Rawat, his wife Madhulika Rawat and 11 others died in a chopper crash near Tamil Nadu's Coonoor in the Nilgiris on December 8, 2021. The chopper crashed shortly after it took off from the Air Force base in Sulur at 11.45 am, Coimbatore, for Wellington in the Nilgiri Hills.
General Bipin Rawat was a four-star general of the Indian Army. Before taking over as the CDS, he served as 57th and last Chairman of the Chiefs of Staff Committee as well as 26th Chief of Army Staff of the Indian Army.
