Patna: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) Court Patna pronounced the quantum of punishment for nine convicts on Monday in the 2013 Patna Gandhi Maidan serial blasts case.
Four got capital punishment, two got life imprisonment, two got 10-yr imprisonment and one was sentenced to seven years imprisonment. Blasts had occurred at the venue of the PM candidate Narendra Modi’s rally.
Six people were killed and over 90 injured in the serial blasts that shook Patna, the capital city of Bihar on October 27, 2013. Prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, however, went ahead with the rally to calm nerves and prevent a stampede at the packed Gandhi Maidan.
The NIA had filed a chargesheet against 10 people, including alleged activist of banned Students Islamic Movement of India or SIMI group Hyder Ali, in a court in Patna.
According to the chargesheet, the accused wanted to target Mr Modi as they thought that it would be inimical to their interests if he became the Prime Minister, and in pursuance of this conspiracy, Ali and his associates had conducted reconnaissance of various rallies to take stock of the security arrangements and plan for attacks.
