The first look of the Shivamogga airport in Karnataka which is set to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has surfaced on the internet.
The airport with a lotus-shaped terminal will be inaugurated by PM Modi today in poll-bound Karnataka. The inauguration of the airport coincides with the BJP strongman and former chief minister B S Yediyurappa's 80th birthday in his hometown. Meanwhile, a Supreme Court advocate pointed out that the airport is designed to resemble BJP's electoral symbol ‘lotus’ and said the state resources cannot be used to for the “propagation” of party symbol.
“Airport in Shimoga, sanctioned by the BJP Govt is being opened by PM Modi today. The airport is designed to resemble BJP's electoral symbol the lotus. Propagation of Party symbol using State resources cannot be permitted. Expenses borne on structure must be recovered from BJP,” Brijesh Kalappa, a top court advocate, said in a tweet. According to an official statement, the Prime Minister will undertake a walk-through and inspect the Shivamogga airport. Developed at a cost of around Rs 450 crore, the airport has the capacity of handling 300 passengers per hour. The airport is expected to improve connectivity and accessibility from Shivamogga and other neighbouring areas in the Malnad region.
