Amidst hijab row Budget Session begins in Karnataka
The budget session will be a acid test for the Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, who completed six months at office. Since six months he has faced many challenges including ongoing the hijab controversy. Disgruntled legislators also giving trouble to him for cabinet expansion
Bengaluru: Amidst of hijab controversy which draws international attention, the ten days joint session of the state legislature has begun from today, the budget session will be held the first week of March.
Principal opposition Congress is getting ready to nail the government for its ‘failure to handle’ law and order in the state during hijab row. Students across the state have protested over hijab row. Students from Hindu and Muslim communities had staged a protest in the state over the hijab controversy.
Congress will also take on the Bommai government in the Mekedatu drinking water project. Recently Congress has embarked on Padayatra from Mekedatu to Bengaluru over delay in implementing the Mekedatu drinking water project.
The joint session has begun with the governor’s address to members of both legislative assembly and council on the first day. The CM also said that he would release a booklet to highlight the achievements in the last six months.
The session will be conducted with a host of safety measures to contain the spread of COVID-19. Members who are not well can skip the session, said Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister J.C. Madhuswamy.
This time only members of the public will be allowed to watch the proceedings of the Assembly from the gallery. However, no students will be allowed.
Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai will present his maiden budget in the first week of March.
The joint session of the legislature is also expected to take up the pending anti-conversion law which has been passed so far only by the Lower House
