Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar accorded state funeral, PM Modi pays tributes
Maharashtra Government has declared a public holiday for tomorrow (February 7) to mourn the demise of Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar. Two-day national mourning to be observed in memory of the departed soul.

Mumbai: Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar was consigned to flame in the presence of national and state leaders, artists, fans and family at Mumbai's Shivaji Park on Sunday. The legendary singer was accorded a state funeral.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the state funeral and paid his last respects to the mortal remains of Lata Mangeshkar.
Earlier, PM Modi has expressed deep grief over the passing away of the legendary singer, often called as 'Nightingale of Bollywood'. The Prime Minister has spoken to her family and expressed his condolences. He also said that the coming generations would remember her as a stalwart of Indian culture, whose melodious voice had an unparalleled ability to mesmerise people.
Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray and state minister Aaditya Thackeray paid last respect to Mangeshkar.

Lata Mangeshkar’s entire family including younger sister Asha Bhosle are present Shivaji Park.
Lata Mangeshkar was born on September 28, 1929, to a Marathi and Konkani musician Pandit Deenanath Mangeshkar. Originally named Hema, she was the eldest of five siblings, including veteran singer Asha Bhosle. Her father Pandit Deenanath Mangeshkar was a classical singer and theatre actor.
Lata Mangeshkar recorded her first playback song for a Marathi film, Kiti Hasaal, at the age of 13, and even acted in a Marathi film, Pahili Mangalagaur in the year 1942. In year 1946, she recorded her first Hindi film playback song for Aap Ki Seva Mein, directed by Vasant Jogalekar.
