The news that could bring smiles to the faces of Indians will also give a sense of pride-Joe Biden, the President of America is said to have decided to nominate Indian-origin political activist Shefali Razdan Duggal as his envoy to the Netherlands.

A report issued by the White House said that the 50-year-old Shefali who is an Indian immigrant to the US, has connections with Jammu and Kashmir back in India.

The reports said that the announcement was made by the White House along with the announcement of the names of some other people for the important administrative and diplomatic positions.

The reports said that Shefali has vast amounts of experience as a political activist and she is also known as a women's rights activist for raising their issues.

Shefali has worked as a Presidential Appointee to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Council and continues to serve as a Western Regional Advisor.

Ms Duggal is a San Francisco Committee member of Human Rights Watch, a member of the Wake Forest University Leadership and Character Council, and served on the National Board of Directors for Emily's List.

Having completed her Masters in political Communication from New York University, the mother of two children has also completed her course in Mass Communication from Miami University.

The report said that many achievements and awards are credited to her as she has won several civic awards including being recognised with the Western Regional Leadership Award by the US Holocaust Memorial Museum, as a Community Hero by the California State Assembly, and as one of the Most Powerful Women in California by the National Diversity Council.

She served as National Co-Chair of Women for Joe Biden, and as a Deputy National Finance Chair at the Democratic National Committee, the White House said.

While she is now set to become US envoy to Poland, she has worked actively in the presidential election campaign for Barack Obama in 2008. She had close relations with another presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. She had worked as a member of Hillary’s campaign in the Northern California Steering Committee and the Women for Hillary Committee.
