Mumbai: Bombay High Court on Thursday dismissed actor Kangana Ranaut's plea seeking to quash the defamation proceeding initiated against her by lyricist Javed Akhtar for damaging his reputation by dragging his name in actor Sushant Singh Rajput's death case.
Bollywood lyricist Javed Akhtar had filed a criminal defamation complaint before a magistrate court against Kangana Ranaut in connection with an interview given by her to Arnab Goswami on the Sushant Singh Rajput death case. She called Akhtar 'part of a particular gang'.

The actress levelled allegations against Javed Akhtar in 'Kangana Ranaut with Arnab Goswami in Nation Wants to Know’, in an interview aired on Republic TV/Republic Bharat on July 20, 2020.
In a complaint, Akhtar said Kangana comments are, “outright canard”, “highly malicious” and one which has lowered his dignity before right-thinking members of society, the film fraternity, friends and acquaintances.
Akhtar said his name had been needlessly dragged into an unconnected sensitive matter and the action was tantamount to extending veiled threats to him.
