Aamir Khan, Kiran Rao announce divorce
Mumbai: Bollywood ace actor Aamir Khan and his wife Kiran Rao announced divorce on Saturday. In a joint statement, announced divorce after 15 years of marriage.
As reported by ANI, the couple said, "We would like to begin a new chapter in our lives - no longer as husband and wife, but as co-parents and family for each other."
The couple tied the nuptial knot on 28 December 2005. Kiran Rao is a film producer, director, and screenwriter. Aamir Khan and Kiran met on the sets of Lagaan directed by Ashutosh Gowariker.
The couple has a son, Azad Rao Khan (born on 5 December 2011), through a surrogate mother who has been named after Abdul Kalam Azad. In 2016, Rao co-founded Paani Foundation , a non-profit organisation working towards the mission of fighting drought in Maharashtra.
Khan had divorced his first wife Reena Dutta in 2002. She also worked as a producer for Lagaan.
