Giving diplomacy a unique twist, the Israeli Embassy in India embraced the viral Studio
Ghibli-inspired trend, sharing AI-generated images of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The artwork, posted on social media platform X, reimagines the leaders in the signature Ghibli aesthetic, symbolising the friendship between the two nations.
While sharing the image on X, Israeli Embassy in India stated, "A #Ghibli tale of friendship India Israel @narendramodi @netanyahu #Ghiblistudio #ghibliart #IndiaIsrael."
Their response came to a post by the Indian Embassy in Israel which had shared a picture of PM Modi and Netanyahu on March 31. This image was from when the two leaders had enjoyed a ride in a jeep on the coast during the latter's visit to Israel in 2018. While sharing the picture on X, the Indian Embassy in Israel said, "Driving the India-Israel friendship forward."
The rise of Ghibli images has taken social media by storm, with millions of users, including celebrities and politicians using ChatGPT to generate AI pictures of themselves. A platform of the Government of India shared several Ghibli-style images of PM Modi on X, captioning them: "Main character? No. He’s the whole storyline. Experience New India in Studio Ghibli strokes."
Meanwhile, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has urged the internet to "chill" amid the raging demand for Ghibli-style images on his AI platform. While the trend has sparked ethical debates about AI tools being trained on copyrighted creative works, Sam Altman just wants the internet to slow down, complaining that his platform's "GPUs are melting".
"Can y'all please chill on generating images... this is insane, our team needs sleep," said Altman in a post on social media platform X. "We just haven’t been able to catch up since launch, so people are still working to keep the service up..." Altman remarked, adding that there was a "biblical demand" and he had never seen anything like it.
