Chennai: Two days before the start of the season, MS Dhoni handed over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captaincy to Ravindra Jadeja on Thursday.
CSK issued a statement:
"MS Dhoni has decided to hand over the leadership of Chennai Super Kings and picked Ravindra Jadeja to lead the team. Jadeja, who has been an integral part of Chennai Super Kings since 2012, will only be the third player to lead CSK. Dhoni will continue to represent Chennai Super Kings this season and beyond".
Under the leadership of Dhoni, CSK have won the IPL title four times (in 2010, 2011, 2018, and 2021), and have the highest win percentage of matches among all teams in the IPL (64.83%).
Jadeja was bought by Chennai Super Kings for 2 million dollars (approx. Rs. 9.8 crore) after a tie-breaker with Deccan Chargers who bid the same amount during 2012 IPL player auction. Jadeja was the most expensive player of the year's auction.
His words during IPL 2021 trophy celebrations were "JOB DONE". Did not thought it would be his last stinct as Captain of @ChennaiIPL . It's truely "End of An Era". @msdhoni @ChennaiIPL @CSKFansOfficial #ChennaiSuperKings pic.twitter.com/CHXs49rwFD
