CDS Gen Rawat’s last rites to be held today
New Delhi: The funeral of Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat and his wife Madhulika Rawat and 11 other defence personals killed in a helicopter crash in Coonoor, Tamil Nadu will be held in full military honours at Brar Square crematorium in Delhi Cantonment.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Cabinet ministers, Chief Minister, all three chiefs of defence forces have paid last respects to General Rawat and his wife Madhulika Rawat. The mortal remains were kept for public homage at Rawat’s official residence at 2, Kamraj Marg residence.
Army officials said that civilians, officials can pay their respect to General Rawat at his residence between 10 am to 12.30 pm. However armed forces can pay their tribute between 12.30 pm and 1.30 pm.
The bodies of General Rawat and his wife Madhulika Rawat are scheduled to leave for the crematorium at 2 pm. There, the General will be given a funeral with full military honours, ANI reported.
The funeral of Brigadier Lakhwinder Singh Lidder, defence assistant to General Rawat and another victim of the chopper crash, was held at Delhi Cantonment today.
Religious leaders hold multi-faith prayers as they pay their last respects to Gen Bipin Rawat and his wife Madhulika Rawat. Daughters of Gen Bipin Rawat and Madhulika Rawat - Kritika and Tarini - paid their last respects to their parents.
Also, French and Israel envoys to India, Emmanuel Lenian and Naor Gilon (respectively) paid floral tribute to CDS Gen Bipin Rawat and his wife Madhulika Rawat.
