ECI to conduct virtual elections for five states in seven phases from February 10 to March 7

Uttar Pradesh poll schedule: First phase – February 10, Second phase- February 14, third phase- February 20, Fourth phase- February 23, fifth phase- February 27,  Sixth phase- March 3rd and Seven phase-March 7.  Single-phase elections will be held in Punjab, Goa and Uttarakhand on February 14. Two-phase elections will be held in Manipur on February 27 and March 3. Counting will be held on March 10.

New Delhi: Due to the surge in Covid third wave, the Elections Commission of India will conduct virtual elections for five states in seven phases from February 10 to March 7, 2022. Counting will be held on March 10.

Elections to 402 Assembly constituencies of Uttar Pradesh will be held in seven phases, Punjab, Uttarakhand and Goa elections will be held in single-phase and Manipur Assembly polls will be held in two phases.

Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra and Election Commissioners Rajiv Kumar, Anoop Chandra Pandey address the press conference here on Saturday. Mr. Sushil Chandra said that our first and foremost objective is to conduct covid saftey elections this time. Thus ECI has decided to conduct the Country's first virtual elections. 

Uttar Pradesh poll schedule: First phase – February 10, Second phase- February 14, third phase- February 20, Fourth phase- February 23, fifth phase- February 27,  Sixth phase- March 3rd and Seven phase-March 7.  Single-phase elections will be held in Punjab, Goa and Uttarakhand on February 14. Two-phase elections will be held in Manipur on February 27 and March 3.

ECI bans public rallies, padayatra, roadshow: Election Commission has given first priority to conduct Covid safety elections, thus it has banned all types of elections rallies, public meetings, padayatra, roadshow, procession, cycle rally, motorcycle rallies till January 15. After January 15th Commission will review the situation after taking into consideration of positivity rate of Covid in respective states.

No victory procession, No indoor and outdoor meeting or rally will be allowed. Commission has asked political parties and candidates to use virtual modes of camping, like social media, mobile phones, For door to door campaign only five persons will be allowed for the campaign. Candidates must give an undertaking through Savida application regarding adhering to the covid protocol.

ECI has mandatory double doses of vaccination to all polling personals, asked the state government to provide booster doses of vaccination to the polling personals on a priority basis. Commission has raised the election expenditure from Rs.28 lakh to 40 lakh. First time online filing of nominations has been given to the candidates to avoid physical contact.

ECI has made it mandatory to all political parties and candidates to declare criminal records of their candidates on tv and in newspapers. Political parties must declare criminal records of their candidates on the home page of their respective websites and should provide a proper reason for choosing candidates with criminal records. Voters should know why political parties choose candidates with criminal records, says Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra.
