ED conduct raids Charanjit Singh Channi's nephew's residence

Chandigarh: Ahead of assembly elections, Enforcement Directorate (ED) raids are underway at the premises of Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi's relative in connection with an illegal sand mining case.

ED is searching premises linked to Charanjit Singh Channi's nephew Bhupinder Singh Honey, officials told news agency ANI.  The raids are underway since morning and have covered at least ten other places across poll-bound Punjab.

Punjab CM Charanjit S Channi said, "They're targetting me and trying to put pressure on me in view of upcoming Assembly polls. This is not good for democracy. We're ready to fight this. The same thing happened during West Bengal elections."

Commenting on the raids, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal in Punjab, said, "It's very sad to know that raid is being conducted on the premises of Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi's relative in connection with a case of illegal sand mining. Punjab CM and his relatives are involved in illegal sand mining."

Illegal sand mining has been one of the talking points in the Punjab campaign. The ruling Congress has been accused by its former Chief Minister, Amarinder Singh, of links to the trade.
