Farmer leader Rajesh Tikait gives ultimatum to Centre

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Kisan Union chief, Rakesh Tikait has given an ultimatum to the Centre to revoke controversial agricultural law by November 26.

Farmer leader Tikait said that if Centre refused to repeal controversial agricultural law by November 26, farmers protests will be escalated at Delhi border, he warned.

“The Union government has time till November 26, after that farmers will reach the border at the protest site around Delhi by tractors from villages and strengthen the protest site with solid fortifications”, he said in Twitter.

On  Sunday Mr. Tikait has warned the Modi-led Centre, if farms not been repealed, it has to face the consequences, he also warned the police to forcibly remove the protesters from the Delhi borders.

"If any attempt to remover us from the borders, then they will turn government offices across the country into Galla Mandi(grain markets)," Rajesh Tikait warns.

Mr Tikait also said that if the authorities concerned tried to pull down their tents at the protest site, the farmers would set the tent in front of the police stations and the district magistrates' office, NDTV reported.

Speaking to ANI, Mr. Tikati said that “ we have heard that district administration is trying to remove the tents here. If they do that, the farmers will set up their tents at Police stations, DM offices," .

Thousands of farmers have been protesting at the three border points -- Tikri, Singhu and Ghazipur -- since November 26 last year claiming that the three laws cleared last year are against their interest. The centre, however, has been saying these legislations are pro-farmer.

There have been several rounds of talks between the Centre and the farmers, but the impasse remains.
