Former National Conference leaders Devender Rana, Surjit Singh join BJP
Former Jammu and Kashmir National Conference leaders Devender Rana and Surjit Singh Slathia joined BJP in presence of Union Ministers Hardeep Singh Puri, Dharmendra Pradhan, and Jitendra Singh on Monday.
New Delhi: Former Jammu and Kashmir National Conference leaders Devender Rana and Surjit Singh Slathia joined BJP in presence of Union Ministers Hardeep Singh Puri, Dharmendra Pradhan, and Jitendra Singh on Monday. Both the leaders resigned from the membership of the National Conference yesterday.
Former NC leader Devendra Rana after joining BJP, "Time has come that Jammu too should have a political narrative... It will be our endeavour under PM Modi and others to create an inclusive narrative for Jammu in J&K...We will not allow 'Dixon' plan and their supporters to succeed".
"I believe there is a need for strengthening of Jammu declaration. It'll become a voice for Jammu & Kashmir & strengthen UT & country. For this, I have changed my political path, " Rana told news agency ANI.

The two leaders joining the BJP is seen as the first major blow to National Conference in the Jammu province since the Centre ended J&K’s special constitutional position in 2019.
Former legislator Rana is former J&K CM Omar Abdullah's close aide. Rana has mass support and has a good rapport with the people of J&K. He also enjoys support of Muslim and Gujjar community in Jammu and Kashmir. He had won from Hindu-majority Nagrota assembly seat of Jammu in 2014 on an NC ticket
