Lucknow: Rightwing pontiff hatemonger who threatened Muslim women with rape finally arrested.

Police took ten days to arrest the head of Maharshi Shri Lakshman Das Udasin Ashram in Khairabad from Sitapur.

He has made shocking threats to Muslim women at the religious procession, the to with the presence of Police.

A two-minute video of his speech on April 2, where he is openly called to rape Muslim women had gone viral. His comments draw sharp criticisms from all quarters, but the police have not registered any case, after the intervention of the National Commission of Women, the police have registered a case against the hatemonger.

According to the NDTV report, the FIR was filed against him. Bajrang Muni Das has been booked under Indian Penal Code sections related to making hate speech, making derogatory statements and sexual harassment.

Hours after the case was registered, a video surfaced on social media where Bajrang Muni is heard apologising. "My statement has been presented in a wrong way. I seek unconditional apology for the same," he said.

Over the last months, there have been a series of outrageous hate speeches, including the one in Haridwar, where open calls to take up arms against Muslims and commit genocide were issued.

In Uttar Pradesh, a few right-wing pontiffs openly called for violence against another community. But UP police have mute spectators on such incidents. Even in many cases, police have refused to file FIR against hatemongers.
