New Delhi: The mega IT raids against Kanpur based businessman Piyush Jain has become political mudslinging between ruling BJP and Samajwadi Party ahead of UP elections.

Meanwhile, the Income Tax department has clarified that the raid on Kanpur based perfume trader Piyush Jain was not a mistaken identity, the raid has taken after taking minute details of the businessman, the IT department said.

During marathon raid, IT department has seized Rs. 196 crore cash and 23 kg gold from low profile businessman Mr. Piyush Jain.

After seizer of Rs. 196 crore cash, both BJP and SP have accused each other. BJP has alleged that Piyush Jain has recently launched Samajwadi perfume. Even Prime Minister has taken a swipe at SP, stating that "Boxes filled with notes have come out. The people of Kanpur understand business and trade well. Before 2017, the perfume of corruption that they had sprinkled all over Uttar Pradesh is there for everyone to see."

Mr. Akhilesh Yadav hit back at BJP, criticizing that BJP has mixed up businessman Piyush Jain with Samajwadi party’s Pushpraj Jain, who launched Samajwadi Party perfume. BJP got its own businessman raided by mistake, Mr. Yadav criticized.

Mr. Jain was arrested for allegedly evading tax worth Rs. 31 crores, interestingly he used to keep a very low profile.

Kanpur based perfume trader was arrested after a 120-hour raid at his Bangalow by the Income-tax department. IT department has recovered Rs. 196 crore cash and 23 kg gold from Piyush Jain residence. However according to a neighbour, Mr. Jain has used to keep a very low profile, he used to walk and travel by scooter. He would attend functions wearing very simple clothes.
