Shreyas Iyer's ton powers India to 345 against New Zealand on Day 2
Kanpur: Indian batsman Shreyas Iyer has joined the league of the players who scored a ton in their maiden test. Iyer became the 16th Indian batsman to score a maiden century in a test match.
Iyer slammed century against New Zealand in first test match, he joins the league of Saurav Ganguly, Rohit Sharma, Virender Sehwag, Shikhar Dhawan, Prathvi Shaw and Mohammed Azharuddin. Shaw was the last Indian batsman to score a century in test debut against West Indies.
He started day 75 not out on Day 2 of the test match. The 26-year-old batsman scored a century before lunch. Iyer made his India debut in 2017 but has struggled to cement his place in the Playing XI. Having led Delhi Capitals to the final of IPL 2020 last year, scoring 519 runs, Iyer suffered an injury setback earlier this year when he dislocated his shoulder.
Later, Iyer was named in India’s T20 World Cup squad as a reserve but drafted back into the main team during the three T20s against New Zealand. His upward curve continued when he made his Test debut, before making the occasions even bigger with a stupendous century. In the first innings, India bowled out for 345 runs
