Pune: The Kolkata Knight Riders continued their journey of victory in the IPL 2022 as they rose to the top position in the points table by defeating the Mumbai Indians (MI) by five wickets on Wednesday. Pat Cummins surprised everyone by smashing the IPL's joint-fastest half-century as KKR chased down the mark of 162 with four overs to spare.

Next was a small partnership between Shreyas Iyer and Venkatesh Iyer, who tried to stabilise the innings from the initial jolt, but Shreyas failed to fire in this innings, scoring just 10 runs. The next batsmen, Sam Billings and Nitish Rana did not contribute much; they scored 17 and 8 runs, respectively.

KKR were in poor form, having lost five wickets for 101 runs, and they needed 60 runs in nearly seven overs.

Cummins' joint-fastest half-century in the IPL

After the departure of Russell, Pat Cummins joined Venkatesh Iyer. Pat Cummins' whirlwind knock stunned everyone. The Australian player hammered 56 runs in just 15 balls. His quick-fire innings contained six massive sixes and four fours.

The duo ransacked the bowling of the Mumbai Indians, and they scored 35 runs in the 16th over and chased down the total with four overs to spare. Both Venkatesh Iyer and Cummins remain unbeaten at 50 and 56, respectively.

Earlier, batting first, Mumbai Indians lost skipper Rohit Sharma early. His bad form continued in this match also. He scored just three runs.

Ishan Kishan failed to score runs. He had scored 14 runs. Dewald Brevis and Surya Kumar Yadav scored 29 and 52 runs, respectively. Tilak Varma’s good batting form continued in this match as well. He scored 38 runs and Kieron Pollard scored 22.
