Kanhaiya, Jignesh to join Congress on October 2
New Delhi: Communist Party of India (CPI) leader Kanhaiya Kumar and Independent Gujarat MLA, Jignesh Mevani are likely to join the Congress party on October 2, date of their joining was finalized after meeting with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.

Mr. Kumar came to the limelight during his stint as JNU student’s union President, Kumar was feeling isolated in the CPI, and thus he has met Rahul Gandhi. His meeting with Rahul Gandhi sparked speculation that he would join Congress soon.
Jignesh Mevani, a noted leader of the Dalit community in Gujarat, has reportedly been in touch with the Congress leadership.
Mr. Mevani has praised the Congress leadership for appointing Charanjit Singh Channi as Punjab Chief Minister, the first Dalit Chief Minister of the state.
Mevani’s induction to the party will consider a big boost to the party in Gujarat, Where bjp central leadership has changed the Chief Minister in a surprise move by appointing first-time MLA Bhupendra Patel as the Chief Minister.
Kumar, on the other hand, is likely to play a role in strengthening the Congress in Bihar if he is inducted into the party.
The Congress, which has not been in power in Bihar since 1990, has witnessed its electoral share rapidly decline in the state. In the last assembly polls, the party ended up winning only 19 legislative seats, down from its previous tally of 27.
