Bengaluru: Following the wrath of ruling party members, the state government is likely to do away with the weekend curfew which was imposed in the state on January 4 following a surge in coronavirus cases and Omicron variant.

Chief Minister has started meeting with Covid technical committee and experts regarding reconsider of its earlier decisions of imposing night curfew and weekend curfew.

Ministers, MPs and MLAs of the ruling party criticized the state government’s decision of imposing a weekend curfew, stating that it has caused hardship to the people and daily wages workers.

Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said that government will take an important decision regarding weekend and night curfew after assessing the situation that prevails in the state.

“I have called a meeting with Covid technical committee members. We will discuss many issues including reopening of schools and colleges in Bengaluru Urban district”, Mr. Bommai said.

“We will assess the Covid situation before and after imposing weekend and night curfew in the state, based on feed back of the experts, the government will take an important decision”, Mr. Bommai told reporters before the meeting.

Meanwhile, Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Sudhakar who was behind in imposing weekend and night curfew in the state said that the government will release new guidelines after assessing the latest situation in the state. 

Before issuing new guidelines, the government will into consideration of low intensity of the virus and less  number of people admitted to the hospital, during the third wave, Mr. Sudhakar said
