The UP government had constituted a one-man commission of retired Allahabad High Court judge Justice Pradeep Kumar Srivastava to monitor the investigation.
New Delhi: Violence in Lakhimpur Kheri was a "pre-planned conspiracy", according to the investigation team probing the case in which eight people were killed and several injured.
Uttar Pradesh Government had constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to conduct a probe into the Lakhimpur Kheri violence in which eight people were killed, including four farmers. Protesting farmers had been mowed down by a four-wheeler belonging to Ashish Mishra, son of Union Minister of State Ajay Mishra Teni.
The UP government had constituted a one-man commission of retired Allahabad High Court judge Justice Pradeep Kumar Srivastava to monitor the investigation.
After much pressure from the Opposition Congress and farmers, the UP police with no option left arrested the Ashish Mishra. Supreme Court came down heavily on the UP government for not arresting the accused soon after registering the FIR.
The new probe findings likely to cause a huge emabrrasment for Ajay Mishra, the Union Minister of State for Home, who has remained in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government despite calls for his sacking.
Eight people were killed on October 3 at Lakhimpur Kheri during a farmers' protest. After four farmers were mowed down, allegedly by an SUV driven by Ashish Mishra, violence broke out in which four more, including a journalist, were killed.
SIT probing Lakhimpur Kheri incident says murder of farmers was a planned conspiracy, wants attempt to murder, voluntarily causing grievous hurt charges added to case. SIT writes to magistrate asking for modification of charges against Ashish Mishra, others.
