The Madhya Pradesh government has started a national award named after Lata Mangeshkar in 1984 to recognise her efforts to uplift Indian music.

It’s a sad Sunday for the Indian film industry, legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar died at Mumbai’s Breach Candy hospital today. She passed away at the age of 92.

The legendary singer was a recipient of numerous awards and titles, including Bharat Ratna, Padama Bhushan, Dada Saheb Phalke awards.

The Madhya Pradesh government has started a national award named after Lata Mangeshkar in 1984 to recognise her efforts to uplift Indian music. Many music maestros have been recipients of this award in the past, namely, Kishore Kumar, Asha Bhonsle. In recent times, singers Suman Kalyanpur, and Kuldeep Singh were honoured with the Lata Mangeshkar Award in 2020. The award was also instituted by the Maharashtra government in 1992.
