Maa Annapurna idol, retrieved from Canada, to be restored in Varanasi on 15 Nov
The idol of Maa Annapurna will be restored Kashi Vishwanath temple in Varanasi on 15th November. Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri paid obeisance to the ancient idol of Maa Annapurna Ji which was stolen from a temple of Varanasi and smuggled out of the country around 100 years ago.
New Delhi: The idol of Maa Annapurna will be restored Kashi Vishwanath temple in Varanasi on 15th November. Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri paid obeisance to the ancient idol of Maa Annapurna Ji which was stolen from a temple of Varanasi and smuggled out of the country around 100 years ago.
"Today, the idol of Maa Annapurna will be taken to Uttar Pradesh. UP government will take out a 4-day Mata Annapurna Devi Yatra to Varanasi. On 15th Nov, the idol will be installed at Vishwanath Temple by CM Adityanath", said Awanish K Awasthi, Additional Chief Secretary, Home Dept, UP government.
The idol was retrieved from Ottawa, Canada and has been received by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) on 15th October. Since 1976, 55 idols have been returned to India. 75% of the idols that have been returned were done so during the tenure of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Out of the 55 antiquities, 42 were returned after 2014 with the Annapurna Devi being the last addition to this.
The idol will be taken from Delhi to Aligarh on the 11th November, from there it will be taken to Kanauj on the 12th of November and reach Ayodhya on 14th November. Finally, it will reach Varanasi on the 15th November where it will be placed at the Kashi Vishwanath Temple Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh after the appropriate rituals.
Last year during his address at Dev Deepawali Mahotsav in Varanasi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the idol of Mata Annapurna, which was stolen over 100 years ago from Kashi, was coming back to India.
