Mumbai: The opposition BJP has demanded the resignation of NCP leader and Minister of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Nawab Malik, who was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with a money-laundering case.
BJP is holding a state-wide protest on Thursday demanding the resignation of the NCP leader from the Cabinet.
Meanwhile, the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) leaders are staged a protest near the Gandhi statue inside the Maharashtra Mantralaya premises.
State Food and Civil Supplies Minister and NCP leader Chhagan Bhujbal categorically said that there is no question of taking the resignation of his Cabinet colleague.
Chhagan Bhujbal accused the BJP government at the Centre of misusing the probe agencies. “There is no question of taking his resignation as he (Malik) has not committed anything wrong,”, he said.
Mr. Malik is facing charges of his alleged links with underworld gangster Dawood Ibrahim and his aides.
While seeking Malik’s custody following his arrest in a money-laundering probe, The Enforcement Directorate on Wednesday told a special PMLA court that the Maharashtra Minority Affairs Minister was "actively" involved in “terror funding”. The ED registered the case based on an FIR of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) against Dawood Ibrahim and others.
"This is a very serious issue. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the ED in their recent operations found a link about Dawood Ibrahim's terror funding in India through real estate dealings and such deals are being done via money”, Opposition leader Devendra Fadnavis said.
Before seeking him to police custody, the ED told the court today that it conducted searches at nine places, in which many links have come to light which establish a link towards Malik,” Fadnavis added.
