Mayawati blames negative campaign for BSP's abysmal performance

Lucknow:  As expected Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati gave her an explanation after a disastrous performance in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections. BSP once ruled the largest state of India with 202 seats in 2007-2012.

In the 2022 elections, BSP won only one seat against 255 seats of BJP. Akhilesh Yadav's Samajwadi Party won 111 seats.

Addressing a post-poll press meet today, Mayawati alleged that 'negative campaigns succeeded...' in the election.

She said, "Negative campaigns succeeded in misleading... that BSP is BJP's B-team... while the truth is opposite, BJP vs BSP war was not only political but principled and electoral as well".

"Before 2017 BJP did not have a good stake in Uttar Pradesh. Likewise today, Congress also undergoing the same phase as BJP...UP election result is a lesson for us to continue putting in efforts".

"UP election results are opposed to BSP's expectations. We should not be discouraged by it. Instead, we should learn to from it, introspect and carry forward our party movement, and come back to power".

Mayawati ruled the state from 20227-2012 with the clear majority but ended up in dismal performance by taking 6 seats in the 2017 Elections. But her party has taken 25 percent votes in the elections. OBC and SC leaders have deserted her party and joined BJP in 2017.
