After Sindhu resigned as the Punjab Congress chief, it was raining resignations as several state party leaders stepped down from their posts. While Razia Sultana resigned as Punjab cabinet minister, Yoginder Dhingra resigned as general secretary of the state party unit, Gulzar Inder Chahal resigned as treasurer of Punjab Congress and Gautam Seth also tendered his resignation as the general secretary (in-charge training) of the state Congress.
Sidhu is meeting the chief minister after senior Congress leader Kapil Sibal expressed anguish over the state of the Congress party following the resignation of Navjot Singh Sidhu. Sibal said he represented the view of 23 Congress leaders who had written a letter to high command over the party leadership.
In a veiled attack against the Gandhis for elevating Sidhu as PPCC chief and eventual turmoil in the state, he said, "We (leaders of G-23) are not the ones who will leave the party and go anywhere else. It is ironic. Those who were close to them (party leadership) have left and those whom they don't consider to be close to them are still standing with them".
